What is going on in Gladbach? Well, Freiburg’s stunning season is continuing to put it mildly.
Their latest showing may be their best performance yet as they incredibly raced into a 5-0 lead after just 25 minutes and a 6-0 one by 38 minutes … away to Borussia Mönchengladbach!
Some of the home side’s defending was generous to say the least and Christian Streich’s side took full advantage of it, with six different goalscorers all forcing Yann Sommer to pick the ball out of the back of his net.
So frustrated was Adi Hütter with his side’s showing that both Alassane Pléa and Stefan Lainer were substituted before the half-hour as he aimed to shake things up in his shell-shocked XI.
And unsurprisingly, the goal glut saw Freiburg make Bundesliga history with their early onslaught, becoming the first away team to achieve the feat and only the second ever.
The only other team who had managed it were Gladbach themselves, a fact which will be little consolation to the Foals faithful.
