West Bromwich Albion have reportedly withdrawn their interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien.
Reports have suggested that both Albion and the Blades are keen on the 23-year-old, who is down the pecking order at The City Ground.
O’Brien was said to be waiting for the green light to move to one of the Championship duo but it seems he won’t be heading to The Hawthorns.
Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett has reported that the Baggies have withdrawn their interest in the midfielder, who flourished under Carlos Corberan at Huddersfield Town last season.
That could clear the way for O’Brien to join United if Berge is sold today, which should mean the EFL transfer embargo they’re under is lifted.
However, Blackburn Rovers have been touted with an interest in the midfielder as well and are thought to be preparing a fresh bid for him.
As per BBC Sport, Forest want to insert a £10 million obligation to buy in the deal.
Fulham’s Nathaniel Chalobah has emerged as a potential alternative for Albion.

The Verdict
This is a significant development in the race for O’Brien as West Brom have withdrawn their interest.
The 23-year-old was phenomenal for Coberan last season and would have been a brilliant addition to the Spaniard’s squad this term.
But it seems the pair won’t be reunited at The Hawthorns – likely due to the structure of the deal that Forest were seeking.
That looks to have cleared the way for either Blackburn or United to strike.
The good news for the Baggies is that it seems Chalobah may yet join the club.
