Liverpool have looked brilliant under Arne Slot, with a reworked midfield forming a major part of their success thus far.

The Reds have dominated almost every game they have played in this season and much of the credit can be put down to the emergence of Ryan Gravenberch.

The Dutch midfielder has worked well in tandem with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to help Liverpool control matches in a way rarely seen under Jurgen Klopp.

Despite the early success of Slot’s midfield, the new head coach reportedly wouldn’t be opposed to some midfield reinforcements to help strengthen his side.

Liverpool dealt Larsson blow

One midfielder that has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks is Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson.

Now, unfortunately for the Reds, the 20-year-old from Sweden has signed a new long-term contract with the German outfit.

The club posted a video of Larsson on a plane on 4 October with the caption ‘#Hugo2029’ and this is a blow for Liverpool in their pursuit of the midfielder.

Larsson has played almost every minute for Frankfurt this season and is one of their key players, so a transfer was never going to be straightforward.

Who is Hugo Larsson?

Although he is only 20, Larsson has already played 46 times for Eintracht Frankfurt since he arrived at the club from Malmo in the summer of 2023.

He can be deployed as a central or holding midfielder and would offer support to Liverpool’s Ryan Gravanberch as the Reds are currently lacking an obvious second choice behind the Dutchman.

Larsson has scored twice in five Bundesliga appearances this season and is a diverse midfielder capable of supporting both the attack and the defence.

Although the midfielder has just signed a new contract this does not mean he won’t be available at a later time and the transfer window doesn’t open again for a number of months.

Although the club may have just been handed a blow in their pursuit of the young star, Liverpool supporters will remain hopeful that the midfielder may still be tempted into a move to Anfield in the future.
