Major Rangers management update at B team cup clash

As Ibrox Noise is discussing today, Rangers’ B team demolished Stenhousemuir in the SPFL Trust Cup (formerly the Challenge Cup, the Ramsden’s Cup, and the version Rangers won back in the day, the Petrofac Cup).

There were a fair chunk of talking points, and while we’ve already reported Zak Lovelace and his decent night before being removed, there were other major aspects in there too.

Another big one was the presence of Rangers’ entire senior management group, including (reportedly) departing Head of Football Operations Creag Robertson, and Director of Football Recruiment Nils Koppen.

Under-pressure manager Philippe Clement and his assistants were all there too, which showed just how seriously Rangers’ management staff were taking this seemingly innocuous youth trophy clash.

The lineup picked by Malky Thomson we are quite sure was heavily influenced by Clement and co, given the level of quality the B team coach was able to call upon, and that went beyond just Zak Lovelace.

The team ran out comfortable 4-1 winners in the end, to make it through to the quarters of the cup, but that’s immaterial at this level.

The fact the entire senior management staff was in attendance for such a ‘lowly’ match made this anything but a lowly match, and the heavyweight ‘home’ (it was at Stirling Albion’s Forthbank Stadium) selection showed just how important this one was.

How important the next week is for Rangers especially, with Europe midweek then the titanic clash with Aberdeen at the weekend.

Yes, this was not a routine B match like the normal ones are…
