As we enter the final phase of the season, FC Barcelona are starting to show clear signs of fatigue.

The Catalans have had to play four matches in the space of ten days following an international break during which most players were involved with their national teams – a few even featuring in matches that went to extra time.

The hectic schedule is starting to take its toll and signs of it were visible during the 1-1 draw against Real Betis this past weekend.

As such, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick now has two crucial tasks at his hand – to rest the most heavily used players and to bring the ones currently sidelined back into the fold.

Dani Olmo likely to return soon

In that context, Dani Olmo’s return is a clear priority. And, according to AS, his recovery is progressing well, and there is hope he will be available soon.

The key attacking midfielder was injured in the game against Osasuna, after returning from international duty with Spain in the Nations League.

The initial prognosis suggested a three-week recovery period, which concludes this Thursday. Encouragingly, the player is showing good progress.

Barcelona face Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday. As things stand, it remains unlikely that Olmo will be involved tomorrow in Montjuic.

But the Blaugrana are more confident that he will rejoin full training from Thursday and could get minutes against Leganes in La Liga at the weekend.

The ultimate goal is for him to be fully fit and play a key role in the decisive second leg against Dortmund in Germany – a match that could determine Barça’s place in the Champions League semi-finals.

Since returning to Barcelona in the summer, Olmo has played 28 matches in all competitions, scoring eight and assisting five goals. Injuries have hampered the Spanish international and the club will hope that he is able to play out the rest of the season without any problems.
