Mainz manager Bo Henriksen will once again have to do without star forward Jonathan Burkardt, at least for today, after the German international has been subbed off injured.
This came in the immediate aftermath of the Mainz captain being set free on goal from inside his own half before scuffing his effort wide, only to grab his hamstring and go down to the turf.
Should he be set for a spell on the treatment table, it would be a huge injury setback for Burkardt, who previously had a torrid time of it in 2022-23, which included knee surgery.
Burkardt already tweaked his hamstring earlier in the current Bundesliga campaign, with Henriksen surely hopeful that he will be back in contention expeditiously.
Coming into today's clash with Bayern, Burkardt was the only player in the Bundesliga to find the back of the net in four consecutive fixtures, and his 10 league goals behind only Harry Kane (14) and Omar Marmoush (13) in the race for the Torjägerkanone.
