Jürgen Klopp announced his return to football last week, but in a role that very few expected. The former Mainz, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager was appointed by Red Bull as their new Global Head of Soccer, which has been met with a lot of criticism throughout football.
On Saturday, Mainz hosted RB Leipzig, which gave the club’s fan and ultra groups an opportunity to target their former head coach, Klopp.
Banners read: “Did you forget everything we made you become?”, “Are you crazy?”, and an old quote from Klopp, “I like people until the point they disappoint me.”
Klopp will earn a reported salary around €10m and €12m per year as the new Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull. With a long-term contract, his role will include advising all Red Bull clubs: Leipzig, Salzburg, New York and Bragantino on coaching matters, philosophy, player development as well as transfers surrounding players and coaches.
