Mike Maignan spoke to the media after AC Milan’s important 1-0 win against Hellas Verona. Although it was another clean sheet for the Frenchman in the league, he admitted that the last few weeks have been far from ideal.
After the howler against Feyenoord, which won the game for the Dutch side, many were expecting a response from Maignan yesterday. Unfortunately, as we highlighted in our player ratings, he lacked decisiveness once again and had a couple of fumbles that could have proved costly.
Speaking to DAZN after the game, as transcribed by MilanNews, Maignan got a bit irritated with the question of the journalist who approached the situation in a coy way. The goalkeeper admitted that the last period hasn’t been great, but that he must move on.
On the game…
“A very important result, we wanted to win. 1, 2 or 3-0, only the three points and the victory mattered. From tomorrow, the focus will be on Feyenoord.”
On the current Milan side…
“There is no comparison between the Milan that won the Scudetto and today, every season is different. We are Milan and we always want to get a result. 5-0 is better, but we also take the 1-0.”
What period has this been for you?
“I don’t like your question. If you want to ask me, then be direct and I will answer you. It’s not the best period of my career. The important thing is to maintain positivity and confidence every day. It’s been three games that have been a bit like this, but I have confidence in myself. I have to continue working.”
The DAZN journalist also asked about the renewal but at that point, Maignan had already left the interview due to a technical error.
Maignan also shared his thoughts with Sky Italia, as transcribed by MilanNews, and that interview wasn’t interrupted by any technical errors. He made it clear that the relationship with Sergio Conceicao is good.
On the victory…
“It was important to win for the season tonight, we wanted to move up the table. These are difficult matches, but we have to get points. Now another match is coming, it’s another competition and we’ll start thinking about it tomorrow.”
On the Rotterdam mistake…
“These things happen. The important thing is to stay positive and continue working. It bothers me to make certain mistakes that cause the team to lose, but you have to stay positive and confident.”
On the next match against Feyenoord…
“We have to show the determination that we didn’t have in Holland. We’re playing at home, we have to give everything on the pitch because we have to win.”
On Conceicao…
“There is a good relationship with the coach. He told me to do what I know how to do, he didn’t ask me to do more.”
