Youngster Aleksandar Pavlović got Bayern off the mark early, swivelling and finishing nicely in the box to score his first goal for his boyhood club.

Alphonso Davies then added to Bayern’s lead on the stroke of half-time, drilling the ball into the bottom right corner with his weaker foot on his return to the team.

The hosts managed to pull one back via Ermedin Demirović who guided a smart header past Manuel Neuer to half the deficit.

However the Bavarians swiftly regained control through Harry Kane, who rolled the ball into an empty net for his 23rd Bundesliga goal of the season.

Augsburg were awarded a penalty in the 87th minute which was saved by Neuer who guessed right to keep out Sven Michel’s spot kick.

The hosts were then given a second chance to reduce the score line in the dying embers of the game when they were awarded a second penalty, a chance that Demirović lapped up to score his second of the game.

The win sees Thomas Tuchel’s men briefly close the gap between themselves and Leverkusen to one point, with Bayer kicking off against Borussia Mönchengladbach later this evening.
