Former Inter star Maicon feels his ex-boss José Mourinho proved to be a top coach at Roma and is ‘sorry’ he left the Giallorossi.
Maicon, a former Inter and Brazil right-back is a 2010 Nerazzurri treble winner. He was one of the most influential players in that team, coached by Mourinho.
“We have a WhatsApp chat with the other treble winners. We are always in touch, and it’s a pleasure to talk to each other, also with Mourinho,” the former defender told Sky Sport Italia as quoted by TMW.
“The other day we did a video call together. Those years were special. José did well at Roma, he won, and I am sorry he left. He remains a top coach and he proved it at Roma.”
The Special One was sacked by the Giallorossi two weeks ago following back-to-back defeats against Lazio in Coppa Italia and Milan in Serie A.
He was replaced by Roma legend Daniele De Rossi who won his first game in charge of the Giallorossi against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico last week.
Tonight, the Giallorossi return to the pitch at the Stadio Arechi, visiting strugglers Salernitana.
Roma currently sith eighth in the Serie A table with 32 points, four below fourth-placed Atalanta.
Maicon also played for Roma, from 2013 until 2016, scoring five goals in 69 appearances with the Giallorossi.
Overall, he managed 20 goals in 49 assists in 234 Serie A appearances during his playing career.
