City’s Riyad Mahrez scored from the penalty spot to help Algeria record a 1-1 friendly draw at home to Tunisia.

In a clash played in Annaba near the Algerian/Tunisian border, Lorient defender Montassar Taibi had drawn first blood for the Tunisians, firing home for the visitors on 13 minutes.

But, as so often, Algeria skipper Mahrez provided the inspiration for the hosts,  getting them back on level terms seven minutes from the break by coolly converting from the penalty spot.

Mahrez and the Desert Foxes turned up the second half pressure as they sought a winner but in the end honours were even between the North African giants.

Elsewhere City keeper Ederson again started in goal but couldn’t help prevent Brazil slumping to a shock 4-2 friendly defeat to Senegal in Lisbon.

West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta had got the South Americans up and running against the reigning African Cup of Nations champions at Sporting Lisbon’s Estadio Jose Alvalade, latching onto Vinicius Junior’s assist to despatch an 11th minute opener.

However, the reigning African Cup of Nations champions hit back to draw level on 22 minutes through Strasbourg striker Habib Diallo.

A 52nd minute Marquinhos own goal and strike from Sadio Mane three minutes later then dramatically turned the game on its head in Portugal.

And though Marquinhos narrowed the deficit just before the hour, a 97th minute Mane penalty ensured Senegal claimed what was a famous victory.
