Mahmoud Dahoud set for Premier League switch | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud is reportedly on the verge of ending his long-term Bundesliga career to link up with an unknown Premier League club.

As reported by Sport1’s Patrick Berger, the 27-year-old was spotted catching up a flight from Dusseldorf to London to undergo medical checks earlier this week.

In February, Die Borussen announced the former German international refused to renew his expiring contract at Signal Iduna Park after six years at the club.

Dahoud has found himself low in the pecking order during Edin Terzic’s stewardship, so it’s unsurprising he was reluctant to pledge his future to Dortmund amid genuine interest from the Premier League.

He has only made nine Bundesliga appearances this season, including five off the bench, playing a minor role in his side’s relentless effort to end Bayern Munich’s decade-long top-flight reign in German football.

As a free agent, Dahoud will get to choose between several decent-looking destinations in England, although it’s still uncertain where he could end up.

Top-four hopefuls Newcastle United and relegation-battling Leicester City have recently emerged as potential landings spots for the German-Syrian, but everything’s still in the realm of speculation.

While St James’ Park continues to grow into a popular place under Eddie Howe’s impressive tenure, the Foxes may first want to sort out their relegation fears before laying out any transfer plans.

Brighton & Hove Albion could be another possible candidate to sign Dahoud, particularly in light of the uncertain futures of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo.

Both players have attracted plenty of suitors in the Premier League, although the former quashed talks linking him with the Amex Stadium departure after helping Argentina win the World Cup title in Qatar.

Meanwhile, aware of Dahoud’s imminent exit, Dortmund established contact with Eintracht Frankfurt in February over the possibility of bringing Daichi Kamada to fill the void.

The current Bundesliga runners-up are ready to table a substantial €40 million salary package to tempt the Japanese to leave the Deutsche Bank Park in the summer.
