Maguire to have Man Utd contract extended and Amad ‘near’ signing new deal

Harry Maguire is set to have a year option in his contract taken up by Manchester United, boss Ruben Amorim has revealed.

Maguire’s deal runs out at the end of this season but includes an option to extend it by another year.

The defender fell out of favour under previous manager Erik ten Hag but has started the last four league games under Amorim and the new United boss has urged him to become even more of a leader at the club.

“We are happy to continue with Harry,” said Amorim.

“We will trigger our option. He needs to improve as a leader because we are starving for leaders on the pitch.”

Amorim also says winger Amad, who has been a shining light for United of late despite their recent form, is “near” to agreeing a new contract with the club.
