Scorer of the second Monegasque goal in Metz to lead the Rouge et Blanc to victory (2-5), the attacking midfielder trained at the Academy was named man of the match by the fans on the AS Monaco App.
He is in top form at the moment. Already decisive with an assist in Strasbourg before the international break when he set up Eliesse Ben Seghir (in a 0-1 win), Maghnes Akliouche isn’t stopping yet. A starter with the French Olympic Team, the playmaker trained at La Diagonale was involved in what was a fifth goal in his last eight matches in Ligue 1 (3 goals, 2 assists).
It is in fact he who created the second goal in Metz (in a 2-5 win), by recovering the ball on a high press, before upsetting the vigilance of Alexandre Oukidja (0-2). We were then in the 10th minute of play, and AS Monaco were leading 2-0. It was a lead which would become stronger later, even if it could have been the case with a pass by Maghnes for… Vanderson, who netted a third goal for the Monégasques just past the quarter hour (16′).
It was thus a lively start to the match for the Monegasque number 21, who would continue to swap flanks with Eliesse Ben Seghir and Takumi Minamino, to confuse the Metz defense. Their incessant activity (2 tackles, 2 key passes , 3 crosses, 8 passes in the final third), was rewarded again in the final moments. It is in fact he who delivered the corner from which Thilo Kehrer headed the ball on for Folarin Balogun, who finished from close range (2-5, 87′).
It was thus a goal and an (almost) an assist for Maghnes, who would earn a 7 in the newspaper L’Équipe for his performance. It is therefore quite logical that he was named MVP of the match by the fans on the AS Monaco App, with 30% of the votes. He thus became the fourth player born in 2002 or later to reach the mark of 6 goals in Ligue 1 this season (after Kalimuendo, Elye Wahi and Emegha, per Opta), despite tough competition.
💎–
He was followed by the American striker, who won a title with the USMNT in the CONCACAF Nation League during the international break, and scorer of a double off the bench (a first since Embolo did the same against Ajaccio in January 2023), also accumulated 25% of the votes.
He was just ahead of Aleksandr Golovin, who set up Vandi’, who also gave a lot in a more defensive role in the middle (8 recoveries, 93% of successful passes, 4 crosses), and who won 23% of the votes. So congratulations to them, and Daghe Maghnes! 🏆
