La Voix du Nord report that RC Lens boss Franck Haise’s son, Maël Haise, is poised to leave the club next month when his contract expires.

The 20-year-old central defender is in talks about gaining a scholarship to join the University of Central Florida’s soccer apparatus.

His career plan as recently as last month was quite different looking:

“I don’t want to get burnt. I am 19, if I could do one year in National and 2 years in Ligue 2, that is superb. Maybe things will go faster, I don’t know. But such a path would interest me before being able to have a career in Ligue 1. There are a lot of young players who pierce through early. But we are not all Ansu Fati or Kylian Mbappé. Some need time, each at their own pace. But for the moment, when I see the three guys in the 1st team (Gradit, Badé, Medina) I take note and I try to follow the example.”
