Players from Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid left the pitch mid-way through Sunday's derby clash.
Always a nervy affair, things turned even more tense at the Metropolitano minutes after the visitors grabbed the lead via Eder Militao.
Atleti fans were seen throwing lighters and other objects at former goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, which caused a pause in play.
After the incidents did not stop, the referee spoke to managers Diego Simeone and Carlo Ancelotti, and both teams exited the pitch.
Simeone and Koke were later seen pleading with home fans in the crowd to stop throwing items onto the pitch.
After about a 15-minute break, the match resumed in the 69th minute with the score 1-0.
