Liverpool have reportedly tabled a club-record offer of €200 million (£170m) for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe, according to Edu Aguirre.

This sum would obliterate the British transfer record of £106m that Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez.

Mbappe is up for sale after refusing to activate the clause that extends his contract until 2025. Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for the 24-year-old.

Aguirre revealed: “What has occurred, in the last few hours, in the offices of PSG is that an offer from Liverpool has arrived. Liverpool have entered the scene. Liverpool have made a €200 million offer for Mbappe.

“The offer from Liverpool that has arrived in the last few hours in the offices of PSG is €200 million. Al-Khelaifi has put Mbappe up for sale.”

PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi is reluctant to part ways with the Frenchman. The 49-year-old is eager for Mbappe to sign a new contract.

However, Al-Khelaifi wants Mbappe to leave this summer rather than exit for free next year.

A £170m offer for Mbappe would be a monumental statement from the Reds, considering he is one the best players in the world at the moment.

Liverpool have been linked with Mbappe over the past five years. Each transfer window fuels speculations of a potential move.

And with PSG reportedly open to selling the French national team captain, this summer could see the long-standing rumours reach a decisive climax.

However, a move to Liverpool would undoubtedly surprise many people. Liverpool’s financial constraints pose a significant obstacle to the potential transfer.

Liverpool currently lack the necessary funds to make such a high-profile acquisition feasible. The Reds have already shelled around £100m to sign Dominick Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

Even if the financial resources were available, it is unlikely that Mbappe would be inclined to join a club that will not be in the Champions League next season.

It remains unclear whether the reported offer for the PSG star will materialise or be a false rumour, but all eyes will be on Mbappe as he makes his next career move.
