Leicester City will entertain Arsenal at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday night looking to earn a victory which would secure progression into the fourth round of the EFL Cup. The Foxes are in red-hot form at the moment after they picked up back to back wins against West Bromwich Albion and Burnley respectively. However, the Gunners are enjoying similar success as they have also emerged victorious in both their Premier League matches thus far which could make this contest an entertaining one in midweek.

Brendan Rodgers will probably stick with his favoured 4-1-4-1 formation and might be inclined to make some significant changes to his team when the North London giants come to their backyard later this week.

Defence

Danny Ward could get the nod to feature in goal for the Foxes as Rodgers looks to hand Kasper Schmeichel a rest in this upcoming cup game. Caglar Soyuncu could operate alongside the experienced Wes Morgan at the heart of the Leicester backline as they try to maintain a good defensive shape and stop the Gunners from creating too many chances inside their penalty box.

James Justin has filled in as a makeshift left-back in his past two outings, but could finally get a chance to return to his usual spot at right-back for this clash at home. Christian Fuchs might come into the team to play on the other side as the left-back. Both Leicester full-backs will be given the license to join in on the attack, so we can expect them to make some overlapping runs out on the wide areas.

Timothy Castagne and Wilfred Ndidi could find themselves on the bench with Rodgers expected to rotate his first-team options in midweek.

Midfield

Nampalys Mendy is likely to continue as the defensive midfielder as he hopes to produce a tireless shift in midfield in order to provide adequate defensive protection for his teammates at the back. The dynamic duo of James Maddison and Hamza Choudhury will feature just ahead of the Frenchman in central midfield as they try to engineer a few decent chances to score. They will also look to make some driving runs towards the opposition penalty area.

Marc Albrighton might get a start as the left-winger while Ayoze Perez keeps his place on the other side as the right-sided wide player. Both of them would be instructed to drag the opposition defenders out of position and deliver some inviting crosses into the danger area.

Attack

Kelechi Iheanacho will lead the charge for the Foxes up top. The Nigerian striker will try to use his pace and power to cause all sorts of problems for the Arsenal defenders, but it won’t be easy for him to carry most of the goal-scoring workload up top.

However, Iheanacho might get some help in the form of Jamie Vardy, who could be given a rest on the bench. We can expect the English centre-forward to come on and make an impact in the second half if Leicester require a goal late in the game.
