Mackenzie Carse signs new contract extension to stay at Celtic | OneFootball

Celtic have this morning announced a contract extension for B-Team midfielder Mackenzie Carse, with the club confirming the promising 19-year-old has extended his deal with the Hoops until 2025.

“Mackenzie Carse has signed a new contract extension at the Club, keeping him at #CelticFC until 2025! Congratulations, Kenzie”

Carse has been with the club and under the Academy player since the age of 13 and is a central midfielder who is just as adept playing as a deep lying playmaker.

As well as being a regular starter for the B team in their Lowland League campaign, the central midfielder is also part of the Scotland national set-up – with appearances for the under-16’s, under-17’s and more recently the Scotland under 19’s team where he has picked up eleven caps and also scored for his country.

This season Carse has played in 29 Lowland League matches for Celtic who lie third in the league table, six points behind leaders Spartans but with a game in hand.

Carse has already contributed with three goals and two assists this season and is seen as a key player in Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus’ B-Team squad. Carse has also played for Celtic five times in the EUFA Youth League, the youth equivalent of the Champions League, registering a solitary assist over the course of those five matches.

Celtic have been keen to highlight their wish for the Celtic B-Team to mirror the style of play of Ange Postecoglou’s first team and players from O’Dea and McManus’ squad regularly train with the first team with a view to the transition to first team football being all the smoother.

Celtic of course have lost some talented young players to Germany and England in recent years, with Ben Doak perhaps the loss felt the keenest, although Barry Hepburn and Liam Morrison were also players earmarked as fist team possible before they headed for Bayern Munich, meanwhile Manchester City stole in for Josh Adam.

Celtic then will be hoping the signing of a contract extension for Mackenzie Carse will be seen in some way as bucking an unwelcome trend, and that perhaps at long last, genuine career pathways are now being outlined by Celtic and real hopes for first team football for Celtic’s young talent can now emerge.
