City’s Sandy MacIver played the whole game as Scotland fell to an agonising 5-4 penalty shoot-out loss to Finland in their Pinatar Cup final clash in Spain.

The two sides had drawn 1-1 after 90 minutes with the final then going straight to spot kicks.

And though City keeper MacIver made a fine block to keep out Heid Kollanen’s effort, misses from Erin Cuthbert and Nicola Docherty meant it was Finland that prevailed 5-4 on penalties to lift the trophy.

Pedro Martínez Losa’s side were largely the dominant side over the course of the game but found themselves a goal down at the break thanks to Oona Sevenius’s 21st minute header.

However, the Scots deservedly got back on level terms thanks to Martha Thomas’s 75th minute strike setting the scene for the drama of penalties.
