Charlton Athletic will be searching for their first League One victory since August when they host Barnsley at The Valley on Saturday.

Ben Garner’s side have not picked up three points since their eye-catching 5-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle 38 days ago and required substitute Miles Leaburn’s 77th-minute equaliser to secure a point away at Fleetwood Town last weekend.

They’re back on home turf on Saturday but face a tough test in the visit of a Barnsley side that are starting to build momentum under new boss Michael Duff.

As one of the players that followed Garner across from Swindon Town, it’s no surprise that Jojo Wollacott has been first choice between the sticks this season but as he is on international duty with Ghana, Craig MacGillivray is in line to make his first competitive appearance in 2022/23.

Ahead of him, the return of Ryan Innis after his suspension may mean the Addicks boss makes a change to the backline with Sam Lavelle dropping out.

George Dobson has looked like a player reborn under Garner and should anchor the midfield once again but Albie Morgan could return to the side in place of Jack Payne, with Scott Fraser the third player in the three-man midfield we’ve become accustomed to under the new coach.

Garner compared Crystal Palace loanee Jesurun Rak-Sakyi to Wilfried Zaha and George Best earlier this week and he should get the nod in the front three alongside captain Jayden Stockley and Charlie Kirk, who may replace Corey Blackett-Taylor in the starting XI.
