Belgian head coach Maarten Martens is set to remain as head coach of AZ Alkmaar for next season. The former player took over from Pascal Jansen after 29 games in January and has been in charge for 18, with an average points per game of 1.78. AZ finished the season in fourth place, four points behind Twente in third and nine points ahead of Ajax in fifth. Martens has signed a two year deal with the club.

This is Martens first job in charge of a senior side in his coaching career. The Belgian had time coaching within the Club Brugge youth system before joining AZ in 2021. Initially he was in charge of the U21 side but became the assistant to Jansen for the 2023/2024 season. Jansen’s three and a bit year stint at the club ended in January of this year, with Martens being promoted to head coach.
