Out-of-favour Lyon forward Karl Toko Ekambi is ostensibly on the way out this month, although whether he remains in Ligue 1 or moves abroad remains unclear.
L’Équipe report that although an agreement has been reached between Les Gones and Rennes – who have been in the market for a forward in the wake of Martin Terrier’s long-term injury – the Cameroon international is instead set on joining Celta Vigo. There is currently no deal in place between Lyon and the Galicians, meaning the move is at a standstill for the time being.
The 30-year-old’s loss of form and his difficult relationship with the Lyon fans have seemingly made a move inevitable, in any case. He first joined Lyon on loan from Villarreal in the second half of the 2019/20 season, and has gone on to find the net 38 times in three seasons. In Ligue 1, Toko Ekambi had previously turned out for Angers, having previously undergone spells at Sochaux and formative club Paris FC.
