Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso could make rapid return

Corentin Tolisso (30) could make a swift return to the pitch on Saturday, against Stade Rennais, Paulo Fonseca revealed on Thursday.

The Olympique Lyonnais vice-captain was stretchered off in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Saint-Étienne. Stassin was initially shown a red card for the challenge before François Letexier was instructed to review the incident by VAR. Letexier then changed his on-field decision, downgrading Stassin’s red to a yellow. The refereeing body have now admitted this was a mistake and the red card should have been awarded.

Tolisso, meanwhile, came off on a stretcher. It was thought that he would be out until the end of the campaign. However, RMC Sport then reported that the injury was not as bad as first feared. Medical sources have evoked a “miracle” with the midfielder avoiding serious injury. The publication understood that there was hope of him returning before the end of the season.

Not only that, Tolisso may now feature less than a week after the event. “We will see tomorrow (Friday) if he can play. He hasn’t trained but he is strong and wants to help the team. We will have to see how he is, if he is able to train tomorrow, then lets speak and see if we can take the risk,” said Fonseca.
