The French Football Federation have announced that Lyon have been ejected from this year’s Coupe de France following crowd trouble during their meeting with Paris FC.
In that last 64 round meeting, there were violent scenes at half-time as fans clashed in the stands which ultimately led to the game being abandoned.
Following a hearing on Monday of the Disciplinary Commission, it was announced that Lyon will now forfeit that tie and have been eliminated from the tournament.
In addition, their fans have been banned from travelling to games for the rest of this season for FFF and LFP organised competitions.
There has also been a suspended sentence issued for their participation in next year’s Coupe de France and if there are further acts of violence involving their fans, they will also be banned from next year’s competition.
They must also pay a €52,000 fine and pay for damages to the Stade Charlety.
There have been multiple instances of fan misdemeanours across French football this season with Lyon themselves docked a point after a Ligue 1 clash with Marseille was abandoned after Dimitri Payet was hit by a bottle thrown from the stands.
For their part in the unrest, Paris FC have also been ejected from the tournament and must contest their next five fixtures away from home as well as a €10,000 fine.
As a result, Nice advance directly to the last 16.
