Lyon set to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles on free transfer | OneFootball

Olympique Lyonnais are set to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles (25) on a free transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano. The former Southampton loanee has been a free agent since he left his boyhood club Arsenal in June.

The versatile midfielder has verbally agreed on a four-year contract with Les Gones and talks are advancing to bring Maitland-Niles to the Groupama Stadium. The 25-year-old has been linked with moves to Premier League newcomers Sheffield United and Luton Town, but now looks to embark on a new chapter in his career in Ligue 1.

OL have been restricted in their transfer activity this summer by the DNCG. This means that OL have been forced to look at loans and free agents to bring in players to the club. Maitland-Niles spent last season on loan at Southampton and will now be teaming up with former teammate Duje Ćaleta-Car who has signed for Lyon on a season-long loan.
