Lyon have rejected Celtic’s attempt to sign Mahamadou Diawara (19) on loan, according to a report from Foot Mercato. The 19-year-old is touted as a highly promising midfielder with Brighton and Borussia Dortmund previously interested in making a move for the former PSG academy graduate. Last season, Diawara played 12 matches for Lyon’s first team, including four starts in Ligue 1, following his free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Despite their need to raise funds from players’ sales, Lyon seem to have no intention of parting ways just yet with Diawara. The outlet reports that the Ligue 1 side have rejected Celtic’s offer of a season-long loan move which included an €8m option to make Diawara’s move to Celtic Park permanent. The France U19 international midfielder may have his chance to impress under the tutelage of Pierre Sage considering Orel Mangala is set to join Everton.
