In an interview with The Athletic, Lyon owner John Textor has indicated that he could be prepared to part ways with the minority stake he holds in Premier League club Crystal Palace, via his Eagle Football Holdings organisation. L’Équipe have added this evening that he is even expected to leave.
Les Gones are set to finish their pre-season campaign against the South London outfit, in which the American businessman has a 46% share. However, the Eagles are reportedly unwilling to enter their namesake multi-club ownership model that Textor has set up, which also includes Brazil’s Botafogo and Belgian side Molenbeek.
As a result, Textor and his financial partners could instead look to another club on the other side of the Channel to invest in. L’Équipe explain that a prospective change in ownership structure at Palace would also presumably put an end to any possible influence that director Dougie Freedman could have at Lyon, given he has often advised the minority shareholder.
In his interview with The Athletic, Textor has explained that he has little influence over the Premier League side’s transfer dealings, and that he only has one vote out of four on he board. As a result of their differing visions on the club’s future, he does not see himself as a “passive” investor moving forward – instead, he would like to either take full control or move on to another club.
