, Lyon made a concrete offer for then Montpellier striker Gaëtan Laborde last summer before being outbid by Rennes at the end of the summer transfer window.

On August 30th last year, in search for a striker following the arrival of Peter Bosz as coach, Lyon offered €11m plus €4m in bonuses for Laborde, Montpellier, however, were looking for €15m plus bonuses. OL went quiet on the deal after that offer and Rennes swooped for the player before the end of the window, who signed the next day as Rennes met the asking price.

L’Équipe had reported at the time that OL had decided Laborde would not significantly improve their squad. Despite a good season overall for Laborde, which has faded in recent weeks, his 15 Ligue 1 goals have been bettered by Lyon’s Moussa Dembélé who has 19, and is scoring 0.83 goals per 90 minutes compared to Laborde’s 0.47.
