Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna reports that Houssem Aouar has not decided on his international future yet. The Lyon midfielder has not reportedly taken any significant step to represent the national team of Algeria.

In 2019, the manager of the Algerian national team, Djamel Belmadi, said that he would like to convince Aouar to pick Alegria as his senior national side.

Born and bred in Lyon, the 24-year-old, who is of Algerian descent, joined the OL academy in 2009 at the age of 11. Emerging through the ranks of the Ligue 1 club, he has also represented France at their U17 and U21 levels.

The central midfielder played an international friendly for France’s senior side against Ukraine in 2020. The game ended in a 7-1 scoreline, with the cunning creator notching up two assists during his 59-minute stay on the pitch.

In 2020, Aouar made the matchday squad for Didier Deschamps’ team against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League, but the French national team manager did not feel the need to introduce him. Since then, the midfield maestro has gone without a call-up to the national team, evidently giving rise to the rumours of a potential change in his international representation.
