Houssem Aouar has found a new club to showcase his talent. According to L’Équipe, the attacking midfielder will be making his way to Italy, a lengthy contract awaiting him at AS Roma. Get French Football News had indicated a few days ago that the 24-year-old had signed his new deal with the Giallorossi, with the move now completed.

6 years after turning professional with his boyhood club, Aouar comes to the end of his contract this June. His high points in a Lyon shirt undoubtedly came during the Final 8 tournament in August 2020, with his match in Lisbon against Manchester City still highly regarded. His performances have tailed off since and he has never quite met the expectations that were set on him.

Lately, Olympique Lyonnais fans have been booing him, along with teammate Moussa Dembélé, with both being considered of the embodiment of another poor season. Aouar has also recently chosen to represent Algeria at international level, after making an appearance for France in a friendly against Ukraine, back in 2020. The decision has not gone down well with some supporters in both France and Algeria. He has nonetheless been picked in Algeria’s squad for the AFCON qualifiers this month, with a trip to Uganda on 18th June.

In Rome, he will hope to find himself managed by José Mourinho. Reports have linked the coach with a move away from the Italian capital, notably to Paris Saint-Germain. A video of his talk at the end of the Europa League final has however showcased his will to stay with the Giallorossi. Aouar will hope to refind his best form in under the Portuguese’s management.
