According to The Athletic, Olympique Lyonnais have made an opening offer of £30 million for Nottingham Forest defensive midfielder Orel Mangala (25).

The French club had earlier been reported as being interested in a player they believe can help protect a defence that has conceded the second most amount of goals in Ligue 1, but have now stepped up their pursuit for the Premier League player.

This is thought to be triggered by Forest’s financial concerns brought about by the Premier League charging the club with a breach of their profitability and sustainability regulations. Lyon believe that Forest will be under pressure to sell and their offer tempting enough to prize the player from their grip.

The reported £30 million would be almost triple what Forest had originally paid for the player when he moved to the Premier League side from VfB Stuttgart in 2022.

Lyon believe that the player would be keen to make the move to France, but how Forest will react to the bid is still unknown. Mangala remains a key player to their side, and selling so late in the transfer window without an obvious replacement lined up runs certain risks.
