Lyon have denied reports that midfielder Bruno Guimarães is set to join Newcastle United.
There were widespread claims on Tuesday that the Brazilian was set to move after the clubs reportedly agreed a €40m fee. That news was followed by the Athletic claiming the player would undergo a medical in Brazil before completing the move.
But Lyon have now denied those reports.
In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, Lyon said: “Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by many media reporting an agreement between Newcastle and OL for the transfer of Brazilian international midfielder Bruno Guimarães.
“In this transfer window period where the slightest rumour is often presented as reality, Olympique Lyonnais reminds that only information officially released by the club is to be taken into consideration.”
The Brazilian is currently away on international duty and is believed to have pencilled in the medical in his homeland before completing the transfer to Eddie Howe’s side.
The central midfielder featured for the Brazil team that won the Olympics in 2020, making six appearances for his country in Japan.
Guimarães has been at Lyon since January 2020 when he moved from Athletico Paranaense and has since made 71 appearances for the club, scoring three goals.
