Lyon manager Bruno Génésio went on Canal Football Club to discuss his tenure at Lyon but could not help from admiring Paris Saint-Germain’s young sensation Kylian Mbappé.
After assuring viewers that his position was secure despite some criticism from supporters, Génésio moved on to discuss his recent match against the reigning champions.
Lyon’s boss started by listing the mitigating factors for what ended as a 5-0 rout at the hands of the Parisian club.
“We had a lot of opposing game-play, with two players injured before half-time and a penalty kick that was not whistled,” he explained.
“We had some good opportunities that we did not capitalize on, especially at 1-0 for Paris,” he added. “In this kind of game, when there are players as talented as Neymar or Mbappé playing up front, missed chances are not forgiven.”
PSG’s 19-year-old star, who personally scored four goals in the second half against Lyon, can count the opposition manager among his admirers.
“To do the individual against a guy like that is impossible,” the French manager said of Mbappé. “He’ll go once, twice, three times and eventually he will pick the lock. It is inevitable.”
“So we put two markers on him, three markers… it worked well for an hour, but not for an hour and a half,” Génésio explained.
“He is phenomenal!”
