Lyon are interested in signing Nicolas Tagliafico and have reached an agreement worth an initial €4 million with Ajax for his services, according to French outlet L’Equipe.
However, the report adds that Tagliafico is yet to make a decision on his next move amid interest from a host of other clubs around Europe, most notably Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Lyon are in the market for a new left-back after Emerson recently returned to his parent club Chelsea following a loan stint with Peter Bosz’s men.
The Ligue 1 side were close to snapping up Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord but Manchester United swooped in at the 11th hour and completed a move for the 22-year-old, who becomes the first signing of Erik ten Hag’s time at the helm of affairs.
This has forced Lyon to turn their attention elsewhere and the likes of Pervis Estupinan, Alejandro Grimaldo and Adrien Truffert have been mooted as potential alternatives alongside Tagliafico.
With just one year left on his current deal at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Tagliafico is expected to leave Ajax before the end of the current window as the Eredivisie champions close in on acquiring the services of Owen Wijndal from AZ Alkmaar.
The 29-year-old featured 30 times across all competitions during the just-concluded season where he picked up his third league winners’ medal in five years in the Dutch capital.
Should he end up joining Lyon, Tagliafcico would be the third major acquisition at the Groupama Stadium this summer following the arrival of ex-players Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso from Arsenal and Bayern Munich respectively.
Off the back of an eighth-place league finish last time out, Les Gones will be looking to bounce back with a much-improved showing in the 2022/23 campaign which is set to come without the added burden of European football.
