Luton Town have gained a reputation for recruiting excellently in recent seasons and their ability to improve their squad window after window, without spending outside of their means, has aided their rise up the divisions.

Possessing an extremely talented and proactive recruitment team, who have plans in place for any kind of scenario, the club are in safe hands as they continue to try and strengthen their spot in the Championship play-offs.

In the most recent window, the Hatters welcomed Marvelous Nakamba and Joe Taylor to Kenilworth Road, however, they were unable to bring in a defender.

The Luton hierarchy have made it clear in recent times that the Hatters will not just recruit to fill a 25-man squad, instead, they will only add if it improves the squad.

Unable to secure a deal for a defender who would significantly bolster the competition levels within the defensive department during January, that will remain a priority with the summer in mind.

Looking at current options, the Bedfordshire club may look to prioritise the addition of a left-sided centre-back at the end of the campaign but will not restrict themselves to solely looking in that market.

True or false: The club was founded in 1875!

True False

Of course, left-footed central defenders are rare commodities and that is something that the Hatters have probably had first-hand experience in finding out.

An added layer of complication for the Hatters in a possible left-sided centre-back pursuit is that they are fighting for promotion to the Premier League and if they were to secure a spot in England’s top flight, that is something that could drastically impact transfer plans.

One player that should and probably is on their radar is Derby County’s Eiran Cashin.

The 21-year-old, who gained Championship experience during the second half of last season and has been brilliant in League One this season, has an incredibly high potential.

Not only is he dominant in his defensive and aerial duels, but he also has a strong passing range and is a composed figure with the ball at his feet.

Representing an option who could play his part in the second tier, whilst being a player who could ply their trade in the Premier League in the not-so-distant future, he would be a very good addition.

Meeting his price tag has perhaps been a barrier for Championship clubs exploring Cashin as an option before but in the summer, he will have a year left on his current deal at Pride Park.

Should Derby struggle to secure promotion in what remains, a move higher up the pyramid could be desired by the exciting defender.
