Allan Campbell has rejected a move to Charlton to make the move to Dundee United, back in his home nation.

Dundee United are closing in on the signing of Luton Town midfielder Allan Campbell.

This is according to Football Insider, who have reported that the Scotsman is set to have his loan spell at Charlton Athletic cancelled ahead of his switch to the Scottish Premiership side.

Campbell, 26, first joined Luton back in the summer of 2021, and played a fairly big part in their success during his first two seasons at Kenilworth Road.

But he was an unused substitute in two of their three play-off games in May 2023 - and after their promotion to the Premier League - it was unclear whether the midfielder had a future in Bedfordshire.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, he was made available for a loan, and he made a temporary switch to Millwall in the summer of 2023.

He endured a fairly underwhelming spell at The Den due to the string of injuries he sustained during his time in the English capital - and he took the step down to League One to make a loan move to Charlton during the previous summer.

Campbell may have taken a step down to join the Addicks, but he has had the opportunity to link up with Nathan Jones, who he worked with at Luton.

His time at The Valley may be coming to an end though.

Allan Campbell set to join Dundee United

Campbell is set to make the move to Jim Goodwin's side, and cancel his loan deal at Charlton ahead of his return to Scotland, according to Football Insider.

The same outlet reported earlier this month that Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibernian and Rangers were all believed to be interested in a move for the midfielder.

But it looks as though Dundee United will win the race for his signature, with the Luton man set to join a side who are currently sitting third in the Scottish Premiership table.

Campbell did well during his first two seasons at Kenilworth Road.

And he will be pleased with the fact he was able to make an impact on Luton and play a considerable part in their rise to the top level of English football.

But the fact he didn't play much in the play-offs would have disappointed him, as well as the fact he hasn't been able to make much of an impact at the Kenny in recent years.

He didn't even make a single Premier League appearance, which will disappoint him.
