Luton Town are hoping to finalise a late transfer swoop for talented Peterborough United youngster Joe Taylor.

The striker is highly-rated at the Posh but he has understandably found it difficult to get regular football in the first-team due to the more experienced options available at the club, although he has featured in eight league games but has failed to score.

Nevertheless, Taylor has shone for the U23 side and his ability hasn’t gone unnoticed, as Football Insider have revealed that the Hatters are keen on doing a deal for the 20-year-old.

They claim that the two clubs are in ‘advanced talks’ over the deal, with the indication that it could get sorted by the 11pm deadline.

The update adds that Luton are looking to add more depth to their strikeforce after Cameron Jerome’s exit, whilst there are also doubts about the future of Harry Cornick.

So, whilst Taylor won’t feature immediately, he is seen as someone who can provide further competition for Rob Edwards’ side moving forward, providing the deal is done.

The verdict

This is the sort of signing that you would expect Luton to make as they have identified talent in the lower leagues a lot over the years and it’s served them well.

Clearly, there’s going to be patience required with Taylor as he isn’t the finished article yet but he has plenty of potential.

With that in mind, it could be a good long-term deal for the Hatters and it would be a good opportunity for the youngster to get a move to a higher level.
