Luton Town midfielder Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu has made English football history as the Hatters kicked off their Premier League campaign on Saturday.
Rob Edwards’ side suffered a 3-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion as they made their first top-flight appearance since 1992.
But Mpanzu became the first player to represent the same club from non-league to the Premier League, turning out for Luton in all fifth tiers.
The 29-year-old, who was on the books at West Ham United without featuring for the club, moved to Luton in 2014 and has gone on to make 322 appearances during his time at Kenilworth Road.
The opening day may not have gone to plan for Luton but Mpanzu has written his name into the English football record books.
