Despite grabbing an early lead, Rangers suffered a 7-1 humiliation against Liverpool in the Champions League. It’s been a new low for them at Ibrox and the gaffer Giovanni van Bronckhorst demanded a reaction this afternoon versus Motherwell. The injury absence of Connor Goldson is a significant blow, yet the Gers stepped up their performance in an edgy 2-1 win on the road.

Below are the Rangers players rated in their win against Motherwell.

OneFootball Videos

Allan McGregor: 5.5

Saved Kevin van Veen’s effort strike into the second half. Should have done better to stop Stuart McKinstry’s free-kick that found the net and reduced the deficit for the home side late in the match.

James Tavernier: 7

Played his part in the build-up before Tillman found the net with a brilliant solo effort. Tried to balance his game with more defensive involvement, particularly due to Goldson’s absence.

Leon King: 7

The teenager needs to improve his passing game, but his composure in deep defence as well as no-nonsense defending helped the Gers avoid a setback in the Premiership race.

Ben Davies: 7.5

Was a fitness doubt after sustaining a knock versus the Reds, however, the former Liverpool centre-half was declared available before today’s contest. Showed his excellence in the heart of the backline with timely tackles, crucial interceptions and clearances.

Borna Barisic: 8

Looked lively from the left with his marauding runs, cut insides and crosses. Assisted Lundstram from a corner that eventually proved to be the decider at Fir Park.

John Lundstram

John Lundstram: 8.5

Was combative in the centre of the pitch as he kept on winning duels, snatching possession from the Well and staging attacking threats with his down-the-middle runs, distribution and directness. Found the net around the 70th-minute mark with a looping header from Barisic’s cross.

Scott Arfield: 6.5

Covered a lot of ground, but his movements were predictable and off-paced. Got dispossessed a few times, and also lost the majority of duels before making way for Steven Davis midway through the second half.

Rabbi Matondo: 7

His pace and flair caused problems in the Motherwell defence. But the Welshman was unable to pose a constant threat, and therefore, was taken off for Scott Wright around the 65th-minute mark.

Malik Tillman: 8.5

Grabbed his opportunity with an exquisite goal. Picked the ball from Tavernier inside his own half and then beat past four opponent defenders before finding the net beyond Kelly to break the deadlock.

Ryan Kent: 7

Has been heavily criticized for his lack of involvement in recent games. However, the Englishman showed some spark with his touches and swift runs. Was denied early into the game but looked menacing with the ball on his feet down the left.

Antonio Colak: 6

Far from his best as he failed to play his part in the build-ups, could not keep his header on target and kept on misplacing the passes before making way for Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers Subs vs Motherwell

Scott Wright: 6.5

Injected pace and freshness on the right-hand flank.

Steven Davis: 6.5

Added more cover in the defensive third and calmed things down in the middle of the park.

Alfredo Morelos: NA

Played too little to warrant a rating.
