Luke Shaw has revealed that he hasn’t read about Roberto Carlos’ praise after his amazing performance for England in their 4-0 victory over Ukraine.
The 25-year-old is currently in the form of his life, with his outstanding performances at Euro 2020 drawing praise from fans and pundits alike.
Carlos followed Shaw on social media and also heaped praise on him later.
Carlos, who is widely considered one of the greatest left-backs of all time, told PA Sport: “You can see he’s very motivated, his performance against Ukraine was very good.
“He’s been improving each game. I think he’s got everything to get to the top. He’s the left-back for England – that in itself says a lot,”
When this was mentioned to the Manchester United defender, he admitted that he was yet to read that praise.
“To be fair, I didn’t even see any of that [Carlos’ praise], it’s the first time I’ve heard of it,” he told the Lion’s Den.
“Obviously, it’s so nice to hear that from one of the best left-backs ever and after the game when I had seen he had followed me and commented on my photo, I couldn’t believe it to be honest.
“It was a weird feeling, but one that I take massive respect from it and it’s really nice to hear words from someone like that.”
Shaw has come a long way since his former manager Jose Mourinho publicly criticised him after the 1-1 draw against Everton in April 2017.
The 25-year-old struggled to garner regular football under the Portuguese boss but turned things around after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the hot seat.
Last season, he made 47 appearances across all competitions for United, netting a goal and six assists.
The talented left-back was included in England’s squad for Euro 2020 and has made four appearances in the prestigious competition.
