Borussia Dortmund could be without right-back Lukasz Piszczek for the remainder of the season.
The Pole returned from injury to start against Bayern Munich last weekend.
However, it was the 33-year-old’s only appearance since 9 February and he has since suffered another setback.
“The doctor said it could take at least two to three weeks,” head coach Lucien Favre told reporters on Thursday.
That means Piszczek will definitely miss Saturday’s clash with Mainz, as well as a Bundesliga game against Freiburg the following week.
The defender could return in time for the Revierderby against Schalke on 27 April, though that seems unlikely. After that game, there will be just three Bundesliga games remaining.
Achraf Hakimi and Marius Wolf have filled in at right-back in recent weeks. With Hakimi out until the end of the season, Wolf will now be expected to keep the spot in for the remainder of the campaign.
Dortmund, just a point behind Bayern Munich, are still chasing the Bundesliga title. Piszczek’s setback, though, is a considerable blow to their hopes of winning the league.
