Romelu Lukaku admits he wants to share his Man of the Match trophy with Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret following a 4-0 victory in Cagliari. ‘Every game is like a final.’
The Partenopei made it three victories in a row, although the 4-0 result at the Unipol Domus does not reflect the number of huge saves Meret made after the deflected Giovanni Di Lorenzo opener.
They rode the storm and added to their lead with Lukaku and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia assisting each other’s goals, then Alessandro Buongiorno nodding in the David Neres corner with the last kick of the game.
Lukaku was given the Man of the Match award, but confessed he could easily have shared it with Meret.
“He saved the team against Parma and again today, it’s important to have a quality goalkeeper like this. We strikers have to put the ball in the net and we’re happy,” Lukaku told Sky Sport Italia.
In just two appearances for the club, the ex-Chelsea striker has already contributed two goals.
“The important thing is that the team wins. We know every game is like a final from here to the end of the season, so we’ll see where we are at the end. Now we rest and go again.”
Meret had to make two particularly remarkable fingertip saves on Razvan Marin and Sebastiano Luperto.
“We knew it was going to be a rough game, it was very windy and not easy to play our football,” said the goalkeeper.
“It was particularly tough during the middle of the second half, Cagliari tried everything, but we made the most of counter-attacks to secure these three very important points.”
