Romelu Lukaku’s first season at Napoli under Antonio Conte is reshaping his attacking game like never before, as the Belgium international evolves into more than just a traditional target man.
While the former Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter boss was eager to bring in a striker capable of capitalising on his side’s quick transitions, the rest of the Partenopei are also benefiting from Lukaku’s hold-up play and his ability to set up teammates with timing and precision.
Beyond contributing to Napoli’s opener, the 31-year-old also set up both of McTominay’s goals in their 3–0 win over Empoli—a role in which he appears increasingly at ease.
For the first time in his career, Lukaku has reached double figures in both goals and assists, tallying 12 Serie A goals and 10 assists in 30 appearances—an impressive 22 goal involvements overall, accounting for nearly half of Napoli’s 51 league goals this season.
The closest the striker came to reaching double figures in both goals and assists was during the 2020-2021 season, when he played a key role in Antonio Conte’s title-winning Inter side, scoring 24 goals and providing nine assists.

The Italian boss was full of praise for Lukaku after witnessing his role in McTominay’s opener against Empoli, congratulating the striker for a perfectly executed through ball by shouting: ‘That goal is yours!’
