Luis Suarez hailed Darwin Nunez as one of the best strikers in the world and named two forwards he sees similarities with after Uruguay's 3-0 win over Bolivia in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday night.
The Liverpool striker struck twice to help Marcelo Bielsa's side record their third qualifying victory in a row after previous successes against Brazil in October and Argentina earlier in the November international break.
Nunez is now the leading figure in Uruguay's attack ahead of Suarez, who is La Celeste's all-time top scorer with 68 goals and now occupies a back-seat role in their set-up.
Suarez made his first international appearance since the 2022 World Cup as a substitute against Bolivia and revealed he would do all he can to support his country's new main star up front.
He said: "I have one of the best No. 9s in the world ahead of me, which is Darwin Nunez. We have to take advantage of it and enjoy it.
"He has things from [me], from Edi [Cavani], from [Erling] Haaland, from everyone. It is a mixture of everything; goals, commitment and sacrifice for the team, that must be valued.
"Today I am in another role and I am happy to be here helping the group, what I have to do is contribute."
Nunez has revealed his adoration for Suarez in the past, recently stating: "Celebrating with Luis is something very nice and special. He is the nine of Uruguay, the one who made history. I always try to follow in his footsteps.
"Luis is very important for this group that we have. He is a player with a lot of experience that he already had a lot in the national team. It's nice that he is here, that he contributes to the [younger] ones and that we learn from him."
