Luis Suárez has been named La Liga Player of the Month for December – on the same day he celebrates his 31st birthday.

The Barcelona striker netted five times in just four games before Christmas, helping Ernesto Valverde’s side to three wins and a draw.

In part thanks to Suárez’s goals in December, Barça are now 11 points clear at the top of the table and are the only unbeaten side across Europe’s top five leagues.

It’s only the second time the former Liverpool man has picked up a Player of the Month award in Spain – which amazingly, takes him level with Lionel Messi. Really.
