This Tuesday, March 1, 2022, Monterrey played to a scoreless draw against Leon away from home. Luis Romo had the opportunity to come away as the hero of the match for Monterrey with a late penalty in the clash.
Romo came away as the villain instead as his poorly executed penalty was easily saved by Leon goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota. Romo was once widely considered as the best midfielder in the Liga MX with Cruz Azul, but his level of play has dropped considerably since joining Monterrey.
The Mexican midfielder joined Rayados this season on a deal that sent Carlos Rodriguez over to Cruz Azul. Cruz Azul has clearly gotten the better end of the deal so far, as Rodriguez has had a fantastic season.
Monterrey has had a very rough season, currently in 15th place after six games played and Romo has struggled severely. The 26-year-old has only started two games this season and seems to be struggling with confidence like much of the current Monterrey roster.
Victor Manuel Vucetich is rumored to be Monterrey’s next manager and this will surely help Romo, who has already worked with Vucetich at Queretaro. Vucetich was the manager who first moved Romo from the defense to the midfield and they have the potential to work well together.
