Luis Fernando Tena has spoken about the punishments handed down to Cristian Calderón and Uriel Antuna after both players broke club rules on partying.
Both players will face fines for their indiscretions, and it has also led to Calderón falling out of favour with the Mexico national team.
Speaking in his press conference before Sunday’s clash against León, Chivas boss Tena revealed that that the duo will not be considered for selection for the fixture.
“Of course we do not like and the issue of sanctions affects us,” Tena told the gathered media.
“It is not the image we want to give and our president was very clear, it is about sending a blunt message of zero tolerance to indisciplines.
“The players must understand the commitment and social responsibility that every Chivas player must have.
“Sportingly, they will also have a penalty and both Cristian Calderón and Uriel Antuna will play with the U20 this weekend.”
While not downplaying the incidents, Tena added that the spotlight is intense at Chivas, and that it can be a learning curve for players who arrive from smaller clubs.
“They are players who come from other teams, then they arrive here and the change is very drastic. Now they earn much more money. There are more media, people look for them,” Tena said.
The controversy involving the pair was an unwelcome distraction as Chivas seek to turn their season around after recording just two wins in their opening seven Clausura games.
