Exactly a week before Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League encounter with Barcelona, Warren Zaïre-Emery (18) was forced to withdraw from PSG’s Coupe de France semi-final victory over Stade Rennais through injury. However, post-match, Luís Enrique downplayed the significance of the injury.

Zaïre-Emery was taken off in the second half against Rennes and took his place on the PSG bench with an icepack on his left thigh and another one on his right calf.

Given Zaïre-Emery’s importance to Les Parisiens (35 appearances, three goals and six assists in all competitions this season), the images were of concern, given the importance of the upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona. However, speaking in a press conference, attended by Get French Football News, Luís Enrique provided a positive update.

“It’s a blow, nothing more,” said the Spaniard. Regardless, Zaïre-Emery’s participation against Clermont Foot this coming weekend has now been thrown in doubt. The priority will be ensuring that Zaïre-Emery – and the rest of the squad – are in optimal condition to face Barcelona next Wednesday.
