Luis Diaz goal means Liverpool's attack now leads the way in Europe | OneFootball

While they may not be in Europe's premier competition this season, Luis Diaz's goal against Luton Town on Wednesday night pushed the Reds right to the top of the tree on the continent in one key metric.

The Colombian's second-half strike during the 4-1 win moved him to 10 goals from 34 appearances in all competitions this season, meaning Jurgen Klopp's team now have more players with 10+ goals than any other top-flight side on the continent.

The Colombian is the Reds' fifth-top scorer this year, joining Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo on double figures.

Abundance of talent

Despite missing almost two months of action through a combination of AFCON duty and injury, Salah leads the way on the goalscoring charts for the Reds with 19 goals from 28 games.

Jota, who has played the same number of matches, is just behind him with 14 goals. The Portuguese striker, however, is now expected to be out of action for "months" after picking up a nasty knee injury during Saturday's win against Brentford.

Third on the list is Darwin Nunez who has settled into the team much better during his second season at Anfield. The Uruguayan has 13 goals from his 37 appearances.

The onus now on Gakpo and Diaz?

Liverpool's fourth-top scorer this year is Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo. In the absence of Salah, Jota and Nunez on Wednesday, the Dutchman got himself on the scoresheet too with a flicked header early in the second half.

While his form hasn't been excellent so far this year, this could now be his time for both Gakpo and Diaz to step up to the mark and show their worth to the team.

Manager Jurgen Klopp might have started the season with an abundance of riches in the attacking areas, but a lengthy injury list now puts the stress firmly on the collective as the Reds go all out in pursuit of glory on four fronts this campaign.

Having a Europe-leading frontline should certainly help the cause.
